Fuse box, huh? Where exactly is that located on the Safrane? And which fuse would be for the central locking? I'm not super familiar with car electrics, so any pointers would be great.

On the Astra, it was under the steering wheel, but I'm not sure about the Safrane. Your owner's manual should have a diagram. Honestly, though, even if you find the right fuse and it's blown, it might just blow again. Given the error code, I'd say your mechanic is probably right about a wiring issue. Best to let them sort it out, I think. My repair cost was around 80€, so it shouldn't be the end of the world.

I took it to the shop. It was a corroded connector. 95€ later, the central locking is working again. Ugh, these old cars...

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, although the symptoms were a bit different. Did you check the fuse box? Sometimes a blown fuse can cause havoc with the car locks and even trigger the car alarm or security system. It's a long shot, but an easy and cheap thing to check before digging deeper.
