Safrane Cruise Control Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Renault Safrane's cruise control system has failed, with the diagnostic tool indicating an error. The fuse was checked and found to be fine, leading to speculation that a faulty speed sensor might be the cause. However, another possibility is loose or corroded cable and plug connections around the steering wheel or pedal switch, which can prevent the cruise control light from activating and cause system errors. It is suggested to inspect these connections or seek professional diagnosis at a workshop.

Thanks. No, the dashboard light doesn't come on. I haven't checked the cable and plug connections by the steering wheel or pedal. Is that a common problem area?

Yes, that was my problem exactly. The connections can get loose or corroded. Since the light isn't on and there's a diagnostic error, you might need a workshop. It could be a simple connection, but further checks might be needed. A new cable cost me 95€.

Thanks for the advice. Given the possible complexity and your experience, I'll take it to a workshop for a diagnosis. I appreciate you sharing your insights.

I had a similar issue with my Safrane. Does the cruise control light even come on when you try to use it? Also, check the cable and plug connections, especially around the steering wheel and the pedal switch. A bad connection there can cause the system to fail and throw an error code.
