Safrane Diesel Stalling Fuel Pump

My 1999 Renault Safrane diesel is almost impossible to start, often stalls, check engine light is on, and the engine runs rough. Fuel consumption is up. Error codes point to a fuel pump issue. Could a defective cable or plug connection cause this? Similar experiences?

I had a similar problem with my Safrane: error codes, stalling. Fuel pump was also my first thought. Did you check the basics, like the fuel filter? Is the fuel pump actually getting power? Start there before assuming the pump itself is dead.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the fuel filter. How do I check power to the pump? Special tool or multimeter?

You'll need a multimeter to check the voltage at the fuel pump connector. But with those symptoms and the error code, it sounds like the pump itself. I took mine to a workshop. They confirmed it quickly and it cost 95€, but saved me headaches.

Okay, thanks for sharing! Sounds like a workshop might be best. I appreciate the help!
