Safrane Diesel Stalling Fuel Pump
Summary of the thread
A 1999 Renault Safrane diesel is experiencing starting difficulties, stalling, rough engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, with error codes indicating a potential fuel pump issue. Possible causes include a defective cable or plug connection, or a problem with the fuel pump itself. Suggested solutions include checking the fuel filter and ensuring the fuel pump is receiving power using a multimeter. If these checks don't resolve the issue, consulting a workshop for a professional diagnosis is recommended.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the fuel filter. How do I check power to the pump? Special tool or multimeter?

You'll need a multimeter to check the voltage at the fuel pump connector. But with those symptoms and the error code, it sounds like the pump itself. I took mine to a workshop. They confirmed it quickly and it cost 95€, but saved me headaches.

Okay, thanks for sharing! Sounds like a workshop might be best. I appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my Safrane: error codes, stalling. Fuel pump was also my first thought. Did you check the basics, like the fuel filter? Is the fuel pump actually getting power? Start there before assuming the pump itself is dead.
