Safrane overvoltage error

Having a terrible time with my 1999 Renault Safrane (gasoline engine). I'm getting an overvoltage error, and the car is acting crazy! The computer is throwing all sorts of fault codes, and the battery seems weak when starting. It's like the whole electrical system is malfunctioning. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Safrane. A bunch of weird electrical problems all at once? First thing I'd check is the battery. Is it old or heavily discharged?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the battery is pretty old, and I've noticed it struggling lately. Could a bad battery really cause all these overvoltage errors and system failures?

Absolutely. A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause the alternator to overwork, leading to voltage spikes and all sorts of electrical gremlins. Get it checked out, but be prepared; it might have damaged other components. I ended up at a workshop to get it fixed. Cost me around 290€.

Thanks a lot for your help! It seems you were spot on. I replaced the old battery, and the overvoltage errors are gone! All systems are running smoothly now. I really appreciate the advice!
