Safrane overvoltage error
Summary of the thread
A 1999 Renault Safrane was experiencing an overvoltage error and erratic electrical behavior, with multiple fault codes and a weak battery. The issue was suspected to be caused by an old or heavily discharged battery, leading to the alternator overworking and causing voltage spikes. Replacing the battery resolved the overvoltage errors and restored normal system function.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the battery is pretty old, and I've noticed it struggling lately. Could a bad battery really cause all these overvoltage errors and system failures?

Absolutely. A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause the alternator to overwork, leading to voltage spikes and all sorts of electrical gremlins. Get it checked out, but be prepared; it might have damaged other components. I ended up at a workshop to get it fixed. Cost me around 290€.

Thanks a lot for your help! It seems you were spot on. I replaced the old battery, and the overvoltage errors are gone! All systems are running smoothly now. I really appreciate the advice!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Safrane. A bunch of weird electrical problems all at once? First thing I'd check is the battery. Is it old or heavily discharged?
