Safrane reduced engine power ECU issue
Summary of the thread
A 1999 Renault Safrane experienced reduced engine power and a persistent fault code, suspected to be due to previous chip tuning. The issue was identified as a problem with the ECU, likely caused by unauthorized modifications. The suggested solution was to take the car to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and re-flashing of the ECU, which successfully resolved the problem.

It was a generic code related to the ECU. Any ideas what fixed it for you? Was it an expensive fix?

ECU, huh? Sounds exactly like what I went through. It turned out the previous owner had messed with the chip. Take it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and re-flash the ECU.

Took it to a shop, and you were spot on – dodgy chip tuning. They re-flashed the ECU, and she's purring again. Cost me 180€ all in.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue in my Safrane. Was like driving through molasses! Did the diagnostic code point to anything specific? The car computer can be a real drama queen.
