Sail Preheating Lamp Stays On
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Chevrolet Sail diesel had issues with the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a faulty preheating control unit. Upon inspection, it was found that a defective cable and plug connection at the preheating control unit was the problem. Cleaning and replacing the faulty connector resolved the issue, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say you checked the cable and plug connections, did you just visually inspect them, or did you do any actual testing with a multimeter or anything like that? I only had a quick look myself, so maybe I missed something.

Just a visual inspection at first, to be honest. I'm not great with electrics so didn't dare to do any measurements myself. But the mechanic found a corroded pin in one of the plugs going into the preheating control unit. He cleaned it up, but said the unit might fail completely eventually. Best to get it checked properly in a workshop.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was indeed a defective cable and plug connection at the preheating control unit. They cleaned everything up and replaced a dodgy connector. Cost me about 95€ all in, and now it runs as new again.

I had almost the exact same symptoms on my Sail a while back. Preheating light staying on, check engine light, and a bit of smoke... sounds familiar. Did you check the cable and plug connections to the preheating control unit itself? That's where my issue was traced back to. A faulty connection there can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems.
