Santa Fe Diesel Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel is experiencing engine overheating and delayed warming to normal operating temperature, despite normal coolant levels and no visible leaks. The suspected cause is a faulty thermostat. Another owner with a similar issue confirmed that a defective map thermostat was the problem, suggesting a professional check to prevent further damage. After replacing the map thermostat, the overheating issue was resolved.

Interesting. Do you remember what the fix was? Was it indeed the thermostat, or something else entirely? Any details would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, for me it turned out to be a defective map thermostat, apparently pretty common. I had to take it to a workshop, though. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to do it myself. I’d suggest getting yours checked out – could save you a lot of headache and prevent further damage.

Thanks a lot for the info! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on - the map thermostat was the culprit. The repair cost me around 350€. Runs like a champ now!

I have a Santa Fe too, and I had almost the exact same thing happen a while back. Overheating and taking forever to warm up. It drove me nuts! I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Sounded like the cooling system to me, but I'm no expert.
