SantaFe Diesel Choking
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Hyundai SantaFe diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, loss of power, engine stalling, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. These symptoms, along with a 'mixture adaptation' error, suggest a potential issue with the air intake system, possibly a leaking or scorched intake manifold. It is recommended to have a thorough diagnostic check at a workshop to prevent further engine damage.

Swirl flap actuator rod? Interesting... So, what error code did your BMW throw? My SantaFe logged a general 'mixture adaptation' error, nothing too specific.

The BMW logged a fault code related to the swirl flap actuator, accompanied by codes indicating a lean running condition. Given the 'mixture adaptation' error you have found and the other symptoms, I think your intake manifold could be scorched or leaking. I strongly suggest you take the Hyundai to a workshop for a thorough diagnostic check. Continuing to drive with this issue could potentially cause further engine damage.

Okay, thanks for the heads-up! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the intake manifold was leaking due to scorching. Cost me 1180€ to fix. Ouch, but at least she's running smooth again.

The symptoms you are experiencing suggest a potential issue with the air intake system. Reduced engine power, rough running, stalling, and a strong exhaust smell can often be traced back to problems with the intake manifold. I experienced similar problems with a 2012 BMW 520d a few years back, which ultimately turned out to be a defective swirl flap actuator rod, causing improper air flow. Was there any error code?
