SantaFe engine knocking power loss

I've got a 2020 Hyundai SantaFe with a gasoline engine, and I'm experiencing some really weird engine issues. It's got 173682 km on it. Basically, I'm hearing a knocking sound, like an engine knock, and it feels like I've lost a lot of power. It's jerking when I try to accelerate, and sometimes there's even smoke coming out when I put my foot down. I plugged in an OBD2 scanner, and it's showing an error in the error memory. I'm guessing it might be something serious. I was reading online that it could be deposits in the combustion chamber? Anyone else had anything similar happen?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Hyundai SantaFe owner is experiencing engine knocking, power loss, jerking during acceleration, and occasional smoke. The issue might be related to deposits in the combustion chamber or pre-ignition, and an error code was detected using an OBD2 scanner. Possible causes include combustion-related problems or a faulty knock sensor. The suggested solution is to take the vehicle to a workshop for a professional diagnosis and repair.

Wow, that sounds rough. I have a SantaFe too, though I don't know the year, and I had a similar issue a while back. Mine was also jerking and felt like it was losing power, but I didn't notice any smoke. I never checked for error codes myself, but the knocking sound you're describing...could it be pre-ignition, maybe? Have you checked your cylinder heads? I'm no expert, just trying to share my experience.

Pre-ignition, huh? I'm not sure I know much about that. How would I go about checking for that, or the cylinder heads, for that matter? Could it also be a faulty knock sensor? I'm kind of lost on where to even begin, and I really don't want to get ripped off by a mechanic if I can avoid it. Any pointers would be great.

Honestly, pre-ignition is just a guess, I'm definitely not a mechanic. And checking cylinder heads? That's beyond my limited skillset. I'd be too scared to mess something up. The knocking sound is concerning though. My issue ended up being combustion-related and expensive. If you're getting smoke too, that really points to something combustion-y. I think you should probably take it to a workshop, I did the same. The repair cost was 425€, so be prepared.

Thanks a lot for the input! It's good to know someone else had a similar experience with their SantaFe. I was hoping it would be something simple, but it sounds like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. I appreciate you sharing your experience and the estimated repair cost; at least I'll have a ballpark figure in mind. I will let you know how it goes.
