SantaFe steering wheel controls failure

Hi, I've got a 2001 Hyundai SantaFe diesel with about 93,000 km on the clock. Recently, the multifunction steering wheel controls stopped working entirely. No audio controls, cruise control, nothing. The error memory shows a fault related to the steering wheel controls. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I've checked the fuses, but they seem fine.

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Hyundai SantaFe owner reported that the multifunction steering wheel controls stopped working, with an error indicating a fault in the controls. Despite checking the fuses, the issue persisted. A similar case suggested the problem might be due to a defective cable connection inside the steering wheel. The recommended solution was to have a workshop inspect and replace the faulty connection, which successfully resolved the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my SantaFe's steering wheel controls. It sounds like a connectivity problem. Have you had any work done on the steering column recently? Also, are you sure you checked all the fuses related to the interior electrics? Sometimes there's one hiding that controls multiple systems.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't had any work done on the steering column recently. As for the fuses, I checked the ones in the main fuse box under the hood and the one inside the cabin near the driver's side. Is there another location I should be looking at?

Alright. I think it's time to go to the workshop. I experienced exactly the same issue and in my case it turned out to be a defective cable connection inside the steering wheel itself. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what the diagnostics pointed to. It's likely a sensor issue. The shop was able to replace the faulty connection, and it solved the problem completely.

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the cable connection inside the steering wheel. The mechanic confirmed the defective cable connection. Repair cost me 95€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
