Santro poor starting fuel efficiency

Guys, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2021 Hyundai Santro with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. I've got over 100k km on the clock (102789 to be precise) and I'm pretty sure the throttle valve is busted. Getting terrible fuel efficiency and it's a real pig to start. Any ideas? I reckon it might be the accelerator pedal module itself.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Hyundai Santro with over 100,000 km is experiencing poor starting and fuel efficiency, suspected to be due to a faulty throttle valve. Possible causes include a defective accelerator pedal module or issues with the throttle position sensor (TPS) and air intake blockages. Solutions suggested involve checking the TPS for smooth voltage changes and inspecting the air intake for debris. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be a defective accelerator pedal module, which was replaced, resolving the issues.

I had a similar issue with my Santro. Increased fuel consumption and poor starting are classic symptoms. Have you checked the throttle position sensor? It might be sending incorrect signals to the ECU. Also, give the air intake a good once over for any blockages. Could be affecting the engine throttle.

Throttle position sensor, eh? I hadn't thought of that. Where exactly is that located and how would I check if it's faulty? And what kind of blockages should I be looking for in the air intake?

The TPS is usually mounted on the throttle body itself. You can test it with a multimeter, look for smooth voltage changes as you open and close the throttle. As for the air intake, check for leaves, debris, anything restricting airflow. Honestly, though, with those symptoms and the mileage, a defective accelerator pedal module is pretty likely. Best get it to a workshop to be sure.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop and you were spot-on! The accelerator pedal module was indeed defective. Cost me 205€ to get it sorted. Runs like a dream now!
