Saxo Diesel Check Engine Light Vibration

I've got a 2003 Citroen Saxo diesel with only 36697 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light popped on, and I've noticed higher fuel consumption and a drop in engine power. Could this be a fuel injector issue, or something more serious like engine knocking? I am not a car expert but I did a quick check and the spark plugs seem fine. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Citroen Saxo diesel owner experienced a check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and reduced engine power, suspecting a fuel injector or engine knocking issue. Another Saxo owner suggested potential intake manifold or camshaft issues, especially with noticeable vibrations. The problem was resolved by visiting a workshop, where a minor sensor issue was identified and cleared, resolving the symptoms without any cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I also drive a Saxo diesel. Your symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had similar problems a while back – reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and that dreaded check engine light. Did you notice any unusual noises or vibrations? I'm wondering if intake manifold or camshaft issues might be at play here too, especially with fluctuating cylinder pressure.

Thanks for the quick reply! No unusual noises that I can pinpoint, but the vibrations are definitely more noticeable, especially when idling. How did you resolve it, and was it expensive?

Well, I wish I could give you a straightforward answer, but my problem turned out to be a real headache to diagnose. I’d say, based on the vibrations you described, don't delay a visit to a trusted workshop. It's probably a consequential error resulting from another issue, that requires expert diagnosis. I really hope you figure it out quickly!

Thanks a lot for your advice. I took it to the workshop as suggested, and it turned out there was a minor sensor issue triggering all the other symptoms. They cleared the error, and everything is back to normal. Cost me absolutely nothing! Appreciate your help!
