Saxo engine smoke and power loss

Experiencing trouble with my 2003 Citroen Saxo, gasoline engine. It has 242517 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, and I've noticed a distinct reduction in engine power. Also, there's visible smoke when accelerating, which is quite concerning. I suspect the crankcase ventilation valve might be defective. Has anyone encountered similar issues?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Saxo a while back. Same symptoms, especially the smoke. Did you check the PCV valve itself? Sometimes it just gets gunked up.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked the PCV valve directly yet. I was planning to do that this weekend. Was your issue definitively the PCV valve, and if so, did you notice any rough idling before the smoke started?

Yep, turned out to be the PCV valve. Caused all sorts of grief. Honestly, though, just get it checked at a workshop. It's a pain to get to on the Saxo, and emissions problems can be tricky.

Thanks for confirming. I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to the workshop. It seems the defective crankcase ventilation was the problem, and the repair cost me 360€.
