Saxo Exhaust Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Citroen Saxo is experiencing a rough-running engine, a check engine light, and a noticeable exhaust leak with a strong smell. The suspected cause is an exhaust treatment malfunction, potentially due to a faulty lambda sensor. It is advised to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop to confirm the issue and avoid unnecessary part replacements.

Thanks for the suggestion. When your Saxo had similar symptoms, were there any other indicators or noises accompanying the exhaust leak? Did you also see a decrease in fuel efficiency?

Yeah, fuel economy went down the drain, and it was louder than usual, like a constant hissing on top of the engine noise. Honestly, I didn't dig too deep myself. Took it straight to a workshop. They hooked it up to a diagnostic thingy and said it was the lambda sensor. Best to get it checked properly before you start replacing parts.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Based on your insights, I will schedule an appointment with a workshop to diagnose the issue thoroughly. I'll let you know the resolution once the problem has been identified and addressed. The final repair cost was 375€ with the defective lambda sensor replaced.

Hey there! Exhaust leaks are nasty. I had something similar happen with my Saxo, though I can't remember the exact year. Check if it smells strongly of unburnt fuel; mine did. The rough running and the light are classic symptoms. Could be the lambda sensor packing it in. Worth a look!
