Saxo Oil Pressure Light

Panicking a bit! I've got a 2003 Citroen Saxo diesel with about 77000 km on the clock. Recently, a warning light popped up, and now the oil pressure light is constantly on. I checked the oil, and it looks kinda sludgy and dark, not the nice honey color it should be. Could it be something simple like needing an oil change? I'm not super mechanically minded, so any help would be appreciated!

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Citroen Saxo diesel owner noticed the oil pressure warning light was constantly on and observed that the oil appeared sludgy and dark. This issue was likely due to exceeding the maintenance interval, leading to oil contamination. The suggested solution was to change the oil and filter, which resolved the problem after a workshop visit, eliminating the warning light and restoring normal engine function.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! Had a similar issue with my old 2008 Renault Clio – same symptoms with the oil pressure light and the funny colored oil. Have you checked when the last oil change was done? Because with my Clio, the problems started a few weeks after exceeding the maintenance interval, and if you drive frequently in the city like I do, exceeding the maintenance interval is a recipe for oil contamination. Try to remember if the oil filter was changed too, and if you put any additives into the oil. I bet it's all connected to the maintenance.

Thanks for the reply! Hmm, exceeding the maintenance interval does sound like a very good explanation. I don't remember exactly when the last oil change was done. I should've written that down somewhere. But that makes me think... If it's just about the maintenance, could it be solved just by changing the oil and the oil filter? Or the oil contamination could've damaged something else?

Well, in my case with the Clio, changing the oil and filter helped a bit, but the light kept flickering on sometimes, especially when the engine was hot. Better be safe than sorry. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop before you cause any real damage. It could be oil sludge buildup or something more serious!

Thanks, that's really helpful advice! I took your advice and went to the workshop. Turns out, the maintenance interval was indeed exceeded, causing oil contamination. They flushed the system and changed the oil and filter. Cost me 165€, but at least the lights are gone, and the engine sounds happy again. Thanks again for the help!
