Saxo Overheating Thermostat Suspected

My 2000 Citroen Saxo with a diesel engine is overheating, and it takes a long time to reach normal operating temperature. I suspect a defective thermostat. Could this be related to a defective map thermostat?

Sounds like what happened with my Saxo! Was the temperature gauge going all over the place? Like a yo-yo, up and down, never settling? When it got colder, my heater blew cold air more than hot.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. The temperature gauge fluctuates significantly, and the heating is not working properly. How did you resolve the issue? Did you replace the thermostat?

Yep, thermostat was the culprit. I tried fixing it myself at first, but unless you're really confident, get it to a workshop. It's fiddly, and you don't want to mess up the cooling system. Probably looking at a few hundred quid all in, but worth it.

Thank you. I suspected it was the thermostat. I will take it to a workshop and have it replaced. I appreciate the advice. Expecting a bill around 350€.
