Saxo transmission oil pressure sensor issue

Evening. My 2002 Citroen Saxo, petrol engine, is throwing up some errors. It's done 130k km and the MIL light is on, with a code relating to the transmission oil pressure sensor. Gearbox has gone into emergency mode a couple of times, and the shifts feel a bit rough. Occasionally get a grinding noise too. I've had a quick look and the gearbox oil level seems fine. Anyone seen this before?

Hello there! I had a similar issue with my Saxo a while back. Same symptoms. The gearbox was acting up like a wounded animal. Before we jump to conclusions, have you checked the sensor itself? Might be a dodgy connection or a faulty unit. I remember cursing the darkness when mine went belly up. What was the error code you pulled?

Cheers for the quick response! I haven't had a chance to check the sensor itself yet, but the error code was pointing specifically to low oil pressure. Seemed odd as the level looked okay. I will double check the connections tomorrow, but what was the exact issue with yours? Did you get the same code?

Ah, right. Yes, mine showed the same low oil pressure code, even after topping it up. I was pulling my hair out! Eventually, I gave in and took it to a workshop I trust, and they quickly diagnosed it. Turns out, the oil level was indeed low enough to cause issues, even though it looked fine upon initial inspection. I'd suggest you take it to someone who knows what they're doing, especially since gearboxes are complex systems.

Thanks again. I checked the connections and they seemed okay. Bit the bullet and took it to a garage. Turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed too low. Got it sorted for 365€, new sensor and top up. Runs like a dream now!
