Scenic Active Air Flap Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Renault Scenic diesel is experiencing a check engine light and overheating, suspected to be caused by an active air flap fault. The overheating occurs after about 30 minutes of driving, particularly at higher speeds, suggesting the flaps might be stuck closed. Accessing the flap motor for testing is challenging without disassembly, and a workshop visit is recommended to prevent further damage to the cooling system.

Overheating occurs after about 30 minutes of driving, especially at higher speeds. I don't have the fault code, but the mechanic said it was related to the active air flap motor. Can you assess the flap motor without taking apart the whole front of the car?

Right, overheating after 30 mins points to the flaps being stuck closed. Accessing the flap motor for testing without full disassembly is tricky, space is tight. Given the symptoms and likely defective electromechanism, I'd suggest a workshop visit. Sounds like the cooling system is affected, which could lead to more damage.

I'll book it in. They quoted 590€, which seems reasonable given the potential damage. I'll post what happens after the repair. Thanks!

Yeah, the active air flap issue isn't unheard of on the Scenic. Common enough. Does the engine overheat quickly, or only after driving for a while? Do you know the specific fault code?
