Scenic brake lights error

Sounds like a bad brake light switch near the brake pedal. Happened to my brother's old car. Does the error appear right away or only when you press the brake pedal?

Where exactly near the pedal is this switch? Does it matter if I kinda forced the pedal a little bit recently when trying to get something that fell under?

It's usually right behind the pedal arm, pretty easy to spot. If you forced the pedal, you probably messed up the switch position or even broke it. Still, you should let someone take a deeper look to be sure.

You are a genius! Turns out I had knocked the switch completely out of place when I was fishing for my keys. Clipped it back in, and everything's perfect again. No cost at all, brilliant!
