I haven't checked the error memory myself, don't have the tool. But if it is a defective connection, is that something a novice could fix, or am I looking at a mechanic?

A defective cable or plug connection is the likely cause. While a simple fix is possible, diagnosing the specific location of the defect without proper tools and experience can be difficult. Given that an error code is stored, it would be advisable to visit a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop, you were spot on, corroded connector. Cost me 95€ to get sorted. Appreciate the help!

Have you checked the error memory using a diagnostic tool? If an error is stored there, it could indicate a defective cable or plug connection. Is the car alarm working properly?
