Scenic DPF Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Renault Scenic diesel with 167,388 km is experiencing power loss, engine light activation, and smoke during acceleration, likely due to a blocked Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The suggested solution is to force a regeneration cycle, which typically requires diagnostic equipment and should be performed by a workshop. If the DPF is severely blocked, replacement may be necessary, as confirmed by a workshop visit.

How do I force a regeneration cycle? Is that something I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the garage?

Forcing regeneration usually requires diagnostic equipment. It's best to take it to a workshop. If the DPF is severely blocked, cleaning might not be enough, and you may need a replacement. Vehicle inspection is recommended.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. DPF was toast. Ended up costing me 1550€ to replace. Ouch!

I have a Renault Scenic too, although I'm not sure about the year. Your symptoms sound like a blocked DPF. Have you tried forcing a regeneration cycle? It might help clear it out temporarily.
