Scenic electronic parking brake fault

Morning. My 2002 Renault Scenic, diesel engine, is throwing up an electronic parking brake fault. Mileage is 84611 km. The electric handbrake is completely non-functional, and there's an error stored in the ECU. Predictably, the warning light is on. Diagnostics point towards a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Renault Scenic is experiencing a non-functional electronic parking brake, with a fault warning and error stored in the ECU. Diagnostics suggest a defective electric motor in the brake calliper as the cause. While other potential issues like brake sensors and switches were considered, they were ruled out. The recommended solution is to replace the defective motor, with professional assistance advised for a secure repair.

Good day. I'm sorry to hear about the electronic parking brake issues on your Renault Scenic. Have you checked the brake sensor and switch? These can sometimes cause similar symptoms, and it would be prudent to rule them out before assuming the electric motor in the calliper is at fault. Vehicle safety is very important.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've checked the sensors and switch. All appear to be functioning correctly. The error code specifically points to the motor itself, but I'm always open to a second opinion. Could a low battery voltage interfere with the calliper motor?

I appreciate your diligence in checking the sensors and switch. While a low battery voltage can, in some circumstances, cause unusual electrical behaviour, it is unlikely to be the primary cause of a specific motor failure error. Given the symptoms and error code, I must concur with your initial assessment. I recommend seeking professional assistance to replace the defective motor. A workshop will have the appropriate tools and expertise to ensure a secure solution.

Cheers. That's the way I was leaning. I booked it into the workshop, and they confirmed the calliper motor is shot. Repair is going to be around 505€. Appreciate the input.
