Scenic Handsfree Microphone Failure

My 2022 Renault Scenic, gasoline engine, is giving me grief. The hands-free microphone seems to have packed it in. Telephony is completely dead, and the diagnostic tool is throwing an error code related to it. At 190182 km, I initially suspected a loose connection, but after checking all accessible points, I'm leaning towards a defective infotainment system. Anyone else experienced similar gremlins? Ambient noise is obviously not the issue.

Interesting. So, Bluetooth pairing works fine, and you can play music, right? Just the microphone is dead? Have you tried adjusting the microphone volume in the audio settings? It sounds basic, but worth checking before condemning the whole infotainment unit. The microphone itself could also be faulty, of course, but it's rare.

Cheers for the reply. Yes, Bluetooth is solid for music, no dropouts or anything. The volume control for the microphone in the audio settings is greyed out. I can see it, but can't adjust it. If the mic itself was duff, wouldn't I expect some sort of fluctuating input, rather than a complete and utter silence? The error code points to a system fault, but I'm trying to avoid ripping the dash apart unnecessarily.

Right, volume control greyed out points to a deeper issue. If it was just a faulty mic, you'd probably get some noise or crackling. Given the error code and the greyed-out control, it really does sound like the infotainment system itself is the problem. Looks like a trip to the workshop is inevitable, I'm afraid.

Thanks for confirming my fears. I bit the bullet and took it to a specialist. As you suspected, the infotainment system was indeed the culprit. New unit fitted, mic now working perfectly. Cost me 815€ all in. Ouch.
