Scenic Hissing Sound Fuel Consumption

I have a problem with my 2015 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine. I've noticed higher fuel consumption recently, and the check engine light comes on sometimes. I also hear a loud hissing sound when accelerating. The car has 107735 km. Could this be related to the air filter, or maybe something with the turbocharger?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Renault Scenic owner reported increased fuel consumption, an intermittent check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a potential issue with the air intake system, possibly a leak. A fellow Scenic owner advised checking the intake hoses for cracks or loose connections. Upon inspection, a crack was found in an intake hose, which was replaced, resolving the issues and normalizing fuel consumption.

Hey, I have a Scenic too, and I had similar symptoms a while back! A hissing sound, especially when accelerating, could very well indicate a leak in the air intake system. Have you checked the intake hoses for any visible cracks or loose connections? That check engine light is a real pain, isn't it? What kind of fuel economy are you getting?

Thanks for your advice! I haven't checked the intake hoses specifically, but I will take a look. Where exactly should I be looking for these hoses? Also, is there a way to detect a leak without seeing a crack? I'm not very familiar with car mechanics.

Okay, so the intake hoses are usually between the air filter box and the engine. A leak can be hard to spot; sometimes it's a tiny crack. Honestly, with those symptoms, it's probably a leak. A mechanic can do a smoke test to find it easily. I ended up having to replace an intake hose, and it fixed everything. It's best to have it checked at a workshop before it causes more damage!

Thanks so much for the advice! I checked the hoses, and you were right; there was a crack. I had the intake hose replaced at the workshop. The mechanic charged me 100€, which I think is OK. Fuel consumption seems normal again. I really appreciate the help!
