Scenic immobilizer issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Renault Scenic diesel is experiencing starting issues, with the engine firing briefly before dying, and a flashing security light indicating an immobilizer problem. The mechanic suspects a key programming issue, where the car fails to recognize the key properly. The suggested solution is to have the immobilizer reprogrammed with the correct key data, which resolved the issue successfully.

Yes, the security light is flashing! I haven't checked the error memory myself. The mechanic suspected a programming issue with the key, saying the car isn't recognizing it properly. What exactly did you have to do to fix it?

Okay, flashing security light confirms it. Sounds highly likely that the key isn't being properly recognized. In my case, it turned out to be a corrupted key code. I had to get the immobilizer reprogrammed with the correct key data. I would definitely suggest taking it to a workshop with the appropriate diagnostic tools – like going to a doctor when you have a persistent cough.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a workshop as suggested, and you were spot on. The key needed reprogramming; cost me 45€. Runs like a charm now!

I had a similar issue with my Scenic a while back. Does the security light flash on the dashboard when you try to start it? If it does, it definitely points to an immobilizer fault. Did the mechanic say anything about incorrect key programming?
