Scenic power steering vibration
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Renault Scenic diesel with 68,000 km experienced power steering issues, including a vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling, accompanied by an error code. The problem was suspected to be a dodgy cable or plug connection. Suggestions included checking the hydraulic fluid level and wheel alignment, though the latter was deemed less likely due to the sudden onset. The issue was confirmed to be a defective plug connection, which was repaired, resolving the steering problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the hydraulic fluid level yet, I'll definitely do that. What exactly is wheel alignment and how would I know if it is related to the steering?

Wheel alignment refers to the angles of your wheels relative to each other and the vehicle. If they're out of spec, it can cause uneven tire wear and handling problems. But given you're also getting errors and a sudden change in steering feel, a bad connection is more likely. With the error code, it's best to get it checked by a workshop – could be a sensor issue or something more serious. Don't want to risk losing steering completely.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate you explaining wheel alignment, I will do some research on this topic. Took it to the workshop and you were right. It was a defective plug connection, they repaired the cable and the faulty connection. Cost me 95€ for the repair. Steering is back to normal now!

Hey, that sounds pretty concerning. A vibrating wheel and spongy feel definitely point to steering system issues. Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level for the power steering? Low fluid can sometimes cause those symptoms. It might also be worth getting a wheel alignment check, as misalignment can sometimes mimic these issues, though less likely with such sudden onset. Defective cables or plug connections sound reasonable, as this can lead to intermittent failure.
