Scenic rain light sensor fault

I'm facing an odd issue with my 2014 Renault Scenic, diesel engine, 166760 km on the clock. The rain-light sensor seems to be faulty. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory. The automatic wiping mode in the rain isn't working, neither is the automatic headlight control. The speedometer dimming function is also kaput, and the lights switch on constantly. Has anyone encountered similar electrical gremlins? Could it be bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield?

Interesting. I had similar symptoms on my older Volvo V70. Did you check the sensor itself for any physical damage or obstructions? Is the windshield clean around the sensor area?

Physical damage, no. Obstructions, no. The windshield is clean. When you say similar, did you have the exact same suite of issues – wipers, headlights, and dash dimming? What was the root cause in your case?

Not the dimming, but definitely the wipers and headlights misbehaving. I suspected the sensor, but never got to the bottom of it, as the shop found bubbles under the gel pad. I'd suggest a trip to a workshop; they can diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the insight. I took your advice and went to the workshop. Indeed, bubbles had formed under the gel pad on the windshield. The sensor was replaced for 62€, and everything is working as expected now.
