Scenic Rear Window Heating Issue

Hello, I have a 2009 Renault Scenic with a diesel engine and 202885 km on the clock. My rear window heating is not working. There's an error stored in the error memory, and the windshield heating doesn't seem to be performing as it should either. I've checked the fuses, but they all appear to be fine. Any ideas?

Hey there! Sounds like a bit of a frosty situation. When the rear defroster and windshield heater act up together, and you've got an error code, it often points to a common power supply issue. Think of it like trying to run two high-powered appliances on a weak extension cord – things start to fail. How old is your battery? A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins in these cars. Have you had it tested recently?

Thanks for the quick response! The battery is about 4 years old. I haven't had it tested specifically, but the car starts without any issues, even in cold weather. Could a battery that's still starting the car really be the culprit for the rear window and windshield heating?

Alright, 4 years is getting up there for a battery, even if it's still cranking the engine. The thing is, modern cars are super sensitive to voltage drops. Starting the engine is one thing, but those heating elements draw a serious amount of current. If the battery voltage sags too much under that load, it can throw error codes and disable the system to protect itself. It's like a dimmer switch – enough power to light a bulb dimly, but not enough for full brightness. Given the age of the battery and the combined symptoms, I'd strongly suggest getting it professionally tested. If it's not the battery, then you're potentially looking at wiring issues or a faulty control module, which could get expensive. At this point, a trip to a workshop may be unavoidable.

Okay, I understand. I'll get the battery tested first thing tomorrow. I appreciate the detailed explanation. I took your advice and went to the mechanic, he confirmed that the battery was heavily discharged, and after replacing it, the heating is working again. The final repair cost was 290€. Thanks again for your help!
