Scirocco Cruise Control Failure After Mechanic Service

After getting my car back from the mechanic, my Scirocco keeps showing issues with the cruise control system. The speedometer displays an error message and the cruise control is completely non-functional. I checked and there are stored error codes. Driving a 2012 VW Scirocco diesel with 26049km. Has anyone experienced similar problems after a mechanic visit? Could this be related to the throttle body or actuator? Looking for advice before taking it back to get it fixed properly.

Had similar issues with my 2015 VW Golf TDI. The malfunction turned out to be a damaged wiring harness connecting to the throttle body, which caused intermittent cruise control failures and speedometer errors. The root cause was incorrect routing of cables during previous maintenance work. The wires got pinched between components, breaking down the insulation over time. When checking the car electronics, multiple error codes pointed to connectivity issues rather than a faulty throttle body itself. This was a serious issue requiring complete rewiring of that section, including replacing several connectors. The steering wheel controls for cruise system worked perfectly after fixing the damaged cables and clearing the error codes from the system. Key diagnostic signs were: Intermittent speedometer errors, Complete cruise control failure, Multiple related error codes, No physical damage to the throttle body Worth checking the wiring near the fuse box and around recent repair areas. Cable routing problems often show up after other maintenance work when technicians might not follow exact factory routing patterns.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Scirocco had the exact same symptoms last year. The cruise control and speedometer problems started right after a routine service. The diagnostic scan revealed multiple electrical faults connected to the throttle actuator. The mechanic traced it to damaged wiring near the main fuse box where cables had been incorrectly routed during the previous service. The steering wheel controls were fine, but the signals werent reaching the control unit properly. Can you recall roughly how much the repair cost in your case? Also, has everything worked properly since the fix or have you noticed any other electrical issues?

Glad to help with the cost details. I paid 95€ for the repair, which covered fixing a faulty cable connection that was causing the cruise control issues. Since getting it sorted out, all car electronics have been working perfectly, no more non-functional cruise control or speedometer errors. The steering wheel controls are responding normally, and the diagnostic system shows no error codes. The repair was much simpler than initially expected since the mechanic found the problem quickly near the fuse box. The throttle body itself was completely fine, just the wiring needed attention. After six months, I havent experienced any related electrical problems, which confirms it was just that single connection causing all the trouble.

I took the car back to a different workshop where they quickly identified the source of the malfunction. The damaged wiring harness was causing the cruise control system to fail. They found several pinched cables near the fuse box that were incorrectly routed during the previous service. The repair was straightforward and cost me 120€, mainly for labor since they only needed to rewire and secure the cables properly. The mechanic also checked the throttle actuator but confirmed it was working perfectly, the issue was purely electrical. After clearing the error codes, everything has been working flawlessly for the past month. The cruise control responds immediately, the speedometer shows correct readings, and all steering wheel controls function as they should. No more warning messages or system errors. This experience taught me to always double-check how cables are routed after any maintenance work. What seemed like a major electronic failure was just poorly executed wiring from the previous repair.
