Scirocco Light Switch Failure Needs Urgent Diagnosis

Need advice on recurring light switch problems with my 2012 Scirocco. The dashboard lights and exterior lights keep acting up unpredictably. When switching them on, they sometimes work fine but often flicker or fail completely. The car stored an error code related to the lighting system. The dimmer switch also feels loose when operating it. Already had it checked at a mechanic but problems came back after a week. Running a 1.4 TSI with 108992km. Anyone dealt with similar issues? Looking for suggestions before heading back to a different shop.

Had the same symptoms on a 2015 Golf GTI TSI. The flickering dashboard lights and dimmer switch issues pointed to a faulty connection in the light switch module. The main problem was corrosion buildup in the switch housing, affecting both the automotive switch contacts and wiring harness. The connector pins showed significant wear, causing intermittent electrical contact. This explained why temporary fixes would fail within days. The complete repair required: Removing the light switch assembly, Cleaning all electrical contacts, Replacing the main dimmer switch unit, Installing a new wiring harness connector Though not immediately dangerous, leaving it unfixed risks complete lighting system failure. The error codes returned because the temporary fix only addressed the symptoms rather than the root cause. Best approach is having the entire switch assembly replaced rather than attempting partial repairs. The dashboard lights and exterior lighting reliability depends on good connections throughout the system. Monitor if error codes persist after repair. If they do, have the car computer system checked for any stored lighting system faults that need clearing.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Had similar lighting gremlins with my VW Scirocco last winter. After checking the fuse box first, my mechanic also traced it to corroded contacts in the headlight switch assembly. The flickering dashboard lights and dimmer switch acting up were really annoying. Did you notice any other electrical problems after getting it fixed? The repair sorted mine out completely but wondering about the total cost you paid, would help me know if I got a fair deal.

The faulty light switch repair on my Golf GTI resolved all electrical issues completely, no more problems with the dashboard lights or switches since then. The mechanic found corroded connector pins and a damaged cable, similar to your Scirocco case. Total repair cost was 95€ to fix the cable and plug connection in the light switch assembly. Looking back, checking the fuse box first was smart troubleshooting. These automotive switch problems are common in VWs but fairly straightforward to fix once properly diagnosed. The key was replacing the worn components rather than just cleaning them. Zero electrical gremlins or error codes since the repair. Your symptoms matched mine exactly, the unpredictable flickering and loose dimmer operation. When these light switch issues pop up, a proper fix usually sorts them permanently. The 95€ I paid seems standard for this type of electrical repair.

Thanks for the advice. Just got back from my new mechanic and wanted to share how it went. The headlight switch assembly was indeed the culprit. Found heavy corrosion on the contacts and a cracked wire insulation near the fuse box connection. Total repair came to 110€ including parts and labor. They replaced the entire switch unit and cleaned all surrounding connections. The automotive switch feels solid now when operating, no more loose play in the dimmer. Quick test drive confirmed all dashboard lights and exterior lighting working perfectly. No more flickering or error codes showing up. Definitely worth getting it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than living with intermittent issues. Really glad I asked here before going back, helped me point the mechanic in the right direction straight away. Car feels properly sorted now.
