Thank you for your reply. I do not have the error codes at hand right now, but I remember the mechanic mentioning something about the transmission oil temperature sensor. Is it possible that a faulty sensor could cause all these symptoms, including the gearbox going into emergency mode?

Yes, a faulty transmission sensor, especially the oil temperature sensor, can definitely cause all the symptoms you are describing. The emergency mode is a safety feature that activates when the system detects abnormal readings, and a faulty sensor will trigger that. Considering the grinding noises and slippage, it is advisable to have the gearbox thoroughly inspected by a qualified technician. It is possible that the sensor issue is a symptom of another underlying problem, for example, the gearbox oil level being too low. It is best to get it checked.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I took my Alhambra to the workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the transmission oil temperature sensor and also that the gearbox oil level was too low, likely the reason for the sensor failure. The transmission repair, including the sensor replacement and oil refill, cost 365€. Everything is working smoothly again.

I also own a Seat Alhambra and encountered similar automatic transmission issues. The illumination of the engine warning light and the gearbox slipping are concerning symptoms. You mentioned error codes being stored; could you share the specific codes? This might help pinpoint the issue. Also, have you checked the condition and level of your transmission fluid? Low fluid levels can definitely cause such problems.
