Undervoltage, you say? That's interesting because the battery seems fine. How did you figure out it was the voltage and not just the transmission oil being worn out?

The BMW went into limp mode a few times before I clued in. A voltmeter showed the voltage dropping sporadically even though the car started. Automatic transmissions are sensitive, and low voltage can cause all sorts of weirdness. Could be worth checking before you spend big on transmission work. But yeah worn out transmission oil could also be the culprit. Going to a workshop might be your best bet.

Huge thanks for the insight! Turns out it WAS undervoltage messing with the automatic transmission. Oil replacement sorted it, cost me 240€. What a relief!

Transmission problems are the worst. Had similar implausible shifting in my old BMW after the battery started failing. Check your car's voltage before diving into transmission oil replacement.
