Seat Alhambra belt tensioner issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Seat Alhambra owner suspects a faulty belt tensioner due to increased engine noise and decreased performance. The issue is identified as a failing belt handover mechanism, likely caused by a malfunctioning tensioner pulley. The suggested solution is to have the tensioner pulley checked and potentially replaced, preferably by a professional workshop to avoid further complications. The problem was resolved with a confirmed tensioner replacement, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Cheers! When you say 'similar', do you mean the belt handover thingy too? Was it the tensioner pulley in the end?

Yep, the belt handover failing was the main thing. Turns out, the tensioner pulley had packed it in. If you're not confident messing with it yourself, I'd honestly just take it to a workshop. Saves a load of hassle, trust me!

The workshop confirmed it was the belt tensioner. 455€ later and she's purring like a kitten again!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my Alhambra (don't remember the exact year, sorry). Engine noise was driving me nuts and the belt squeal was embarrassing. Is your belt drive looking okay, though? Maybe check the tensioner pulley itself? Give it a wiggle and see if it's loose or wobbly.
