Thanks for the quick reply! Pedal switch makes sense. Where exactly is that located, and is it something I can easily check myself, or am I better off having a professional look at it? And what about the steering wheel controls could they be causing problems?

Indeed, a faulty pedal switch is a relatively common cause. It is typically located near the brake pedal assembly. While you could visually inspect the wiring and connectors for any obvious damage, diagnosing it accurately often requires specialized tools. As for the steering wheel controls, they can be a source of problems, but a defective cable or plug connection is the more probable cause. Considering you already have an error code stored, it would be advisable to take it to a qualified technician for proper diagnosis and repair.

Took it to the shop; they found a defective cable at the cruise control unit. Replaced it for 95€, and now it's working again. Thanks for your input!

I experienced a similar issue with my previous Volvo V70. The cruise control would intermittently disengage, and eventually stopped working altogether. Have you checked the pedal switch? A faulty brake pedal switch can often cause this, as the system interprets it as you pressing the brake, thus deactivating the cruise control. Similarly, issues with the throttle position sensor or speed sensor could also be contributing factors. It would be prudent to also examine the relevant wiring and connectors.
