Seat Alhambra Diesel Oil Pressure Problem

I'm having a problem with my 2002 Seat Alhambra diesel. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and there are mechanical noises coming from the engine. The car has done 145206 km. I suspect the oil pump is faulty. Could a clogged oil filter or the wrong engine oil cause this? Any ideas?

Low oil pressure on a Alhambra diesel with mechanical noises is concerning. When was the last oil and filter change? What oil viscosity are you using? Have you checked the oil level? If the level is fine and the filter isn't clogged, it might be the oil pump. Worn engine bearings could also cause low oil pressure, but the oil pump is more likely.

The oil and filter were changed about 8000 km ago. I used 10W-40 oil. The oil level is ok. How can I be sure it's the oil pump and not the engine bearings?

With the oil and filter relatively recent and the level being fine, and the oil viscosity is appropriate, the combination of low oil pressure, mechanical noises, and ruling out other simpler causes does point towards a failing oil pump. Engine bearings would usually present with other symptoms too. To be absolutely certain, you'd need to get the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge. However, considering the symptoms, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for a professional diagnosis. Continuing to drive it with low oil pressure could cause serious and expensive damage to the engine.

I took the Alhambra to a workshop, and they confirmed the oil pump was the issue. The repair cost 755€, but now the engine is running smoothly again. Thanks for your help!
