Seat Alhambra Diesel Overheating Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Seat Alhambra with a diesel engine is experiencing overheating and a check engine light issue, suspected to be caused by a defective electromechanism in the active air flap system. This problem is related to the grille shutter, which is crucial for thermal management by controlling air intake. The suggested solution is to consult a workshop for diagnosis and repair, which confirmed the defective electromechanism as the cause.

Thank you for your response. I am not familiar with the grille shutter. Could you elaborate on its location and function? Also, I remember the mechanic mentioning something about an 'active air flap fault'. Is that related? I am not sure about the fault code.

Yes, the active air flap fault is definitely related to the grille shutter. It's part of the thermal management system. If the electromechanism is defective, it can cause the flaps to remain closed, restricting air flow and leading to car overheating. I recommend you consult a workshop to confirm the diagnosis.

I appreciate the information. It seems that my concerns about the air flap system were justified. The mechanic confirmed that the electromechanism was defective. Repair cost came to 590€. Thanks again for the help.

I also own a Seat Alhambra, although a slightly newer model. I experienced similar car overheating issues, and the check engine light was also illuminated. Have you checked the grille shutter? It controls air intake, and a fault there can impact thermal management. Do you know what the fault code was?
