Seat Alhambra engine issue

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2009 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. It's got about 74905 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and I'm experiencing reduced engine power, terrible engine response, and my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. My mechanic suspects it's a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' issue, likely a defective crankshaft sensor. Anyone else run into this? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine is experiencing reduced power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The mechanic suspects a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' issue, likely due to a defective crankshaft sensor. After further investigation and advice, the crankshaft sensor was replaced, resolving the problem and restoring the vehicle's performance.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Seat Alhambra, although mine's a bit newer. Check engine light, sluggish performance... Drove me nuts. Did you check the cam sensor as well? What reference value are you seeing?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the cam sensor specifically, but the error code pointed towards a crankshaft/camshaft correlation issue. As for the reference value, I'm not sure exactly what it was, the mechanic just mentioned it was out of range. Is the cam sensor something I can easily check myself?

Probably not something you can easily check without the right tools. Given the symptoms and the error code, and the fact that I had almost the same issue with mine, I'd bet on the crank sensor. Best bet is to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop.

Big thanks for sharing your experience. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. The crankshaft sensor was indeed the culprit. New sensor fitted, engine synchronization done, and everything's running smoothly again. Cost me 340€, but it's worth it to have my Alhambra back to its old self!
