Seat Alhambra Engine Misfire

I'm having trouble with my 2019 Seat Alhambra gasoline engine. It's got some kilometers on it and recently started acting up. The engine start is rough, it stalls at idle sometimes, and the check engine light is constantly illuminated. I suspect it's a defective camshaft sensor, possibly due to a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts. Has anyone experienced similar engine misfire symptoms and can offer some insights before I potentially replace the sensor?

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Opel Insignia a while back. Engine misfire, stalling at idle, check engine light – the works! Did you try any sensor testing to confirm it's the camshaft sensor? Engine control units can be tricky, and sometimes the symptoms can point to the wrong thing.

Yes, I did some sensor testing with a multimeter, checking for voltage and resistance, and the values were off compared to what the service manual stated. Plus, I borrowed a professional-grade scan tool from a friend, and it threw a specific code related to the camshaft sensor. But I'm curious, what was the root cause in your case with the Insignia?

Ah, if you've already done sensor testing and pulled a specific code, it definitely points towards the camshaft sensor. In my case, it was also the sensor itself, but it turned out to be triggered by a broken wire in the harness leading to the sensor. But if you suspect the encoder wheel, I'd say it's best to get it checked out at a workshop. Don't want to risk further engine damage.

Just to finalize this, a trusted mechanic confirmed the camshaft sensor was faulty. The encoder wheel on the camshafts was the issue, as suspected. The repair cost 695€, which isn't ideal, but the Alhambra is running smoothly again. Thanks for the input!
