Seat Alhambra particulate filter lights up and the check engine light comes on

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2009 Seat Alhambra Diesel (189765 km). The following symptoms: black exhaust fumes when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, problems with DPF regeneration and strong exhaust smell. I suspect the diesel particulate filter is heavily loaded. Has anyone had similar experiences? How did it go at the workshop? I'm grateful for any tips! Thank you!

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Seat Alhambra Diesel exhibited issues such as black exhaust fumes, a check engine light, loss of power, and a strong exhaust smell, indicating potential problems with the diesel particulate filter (DPF). The suspected cause was a heavily loaded or defective DPF, possibly due to high mileage. The solution involved cleaning or replacing the DPF and checking or replacing some sensors, which resolved the issues and restored the car's performance.

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2012 Seat Leon Diesel (approx. 150,000 km). Also had black exhaust fumes, check engine light on and loss of power. My diesel particulate filter was also defective due to high mileage. The garage cleaned the filter and checked some sensors. This was a serious problem and should not be ignored as it can damage the engine in the long term. After cleaning and checking, my car ran perfectly again. Good luck! Greetings

Hey, thanks for the answer! Do you remember how much you paid for cleaning and checking the sensors? Were there any other problems afterwards or did everything go smoothly? LG

Hey, sure, I still have that in my head! The whole thing cost me €1550 because the diesel particulate filter was defective at high mileage and had to be replaced. Since then, my 2012 Seat Leon has been running perfectly again and I've had no further problems. Hope this helps you! LG

Hey guys, just a little update to my original post! Been to the garage now and it was actually the diesel particulate filter. The mechanic explained to me that the filter was completely leaking and therefore had to be cleaned or even replaced. The whole thing cost me around €1500 because some sensors also had to be checked and some replaced. It wasn't cheap, but since then my 2009 Seat Alhambra has been running smoothly again. No more black exhaust fumes, the check engine light is off and the loss of power has also been rectified. Many thanks for your tips and support! LG
