Seat Alhambra Transmission Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2020 Seat Alhambra diesel! It has 86108 km on the clock. The transmission indicator light and check engine light are both illuminated. The automatic transmission is stuck in emergency mode, shifts are erratic, and I'm hearing grinding noises during gear changes. The error memory points to a 'radiator oil pressure defective' issue. From what I've researched, a possible culprit is a faulty cable or plug connection to the component. Before I resign myself to a transmission rebuild, does anyone have experience with this? I've checked the obvious – fluid levels seem okay, but I haven't done a deep dive into leak detection around the oil cooler or inspected the pressure gauge itself. Could a simple wiring issue really cause all this chaos?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Seat Alhambra diesel with 86108 km is experiencing transmission issues, including illuminated transmission and check engine lights, erratic shifting, and grinding noises. The error memory indicates a 'radiator oil pressure defective' issue, potentially caused by a faulty cable or plug connection. A similar past experience suggested checking the wiring around the pressure gauge, leading to the discovery of a faulty connection. Cleaning and securing the contacts resolved the problem, avoiding a costly transmission rebuild.

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane – transmission light, weird shifting, the whole shebang. Turned out to be a dodgy sensor causing the gearbox to freak out. Have you checked the wiring around the pressure gauge? Could be as simple as a loose connection or corroded plug. It's like when your internet cuts out because the cable's not plugged in properly.

Interesting! You mentioned a dodgy sensor. Was it specifically related to oil pressure or something else entirely? And did you notice any other symptoms, like the cooling fan running constantly or any signs of a coolant leak around the oil cooler?

Yeah, on the Megane it was an oil temperature sensor giving false readings. It wasn't a coolant leak or the cooling fan causing issues. I'd still get it checked professionally, as continuously driving in emergency mode might cause further issues. But at least you have an idea of what it could be.

Just wanted to let you know, for anyone else with a similar problem. I took it to a trusted technician. As suspected, it was a faulty connection on the radiator oil pressure gauge. They cleaned the contacts and secured the plug. Total cost was 95€ – much better than a new transmission! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction; your experience gave me the confidence to push for a simpler diagnosis.
