Seat Altea Bumper Antenna Issue

I own a 2011 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine. Recently, I've been having trouble with what I suspect is the bumper antenna. There's an error stored in the error memory, and the remote unlocking/locking is unreliable. Also, now the engine won't start unless the key is in the ignition. Could a defective cable or plug connection of the component really be the reason? It seems strange to me.

Summary of the thread

The owner of a 2011 Seat Altea experienced issues with the remote unlocking/locking and engine starting, suspecting a problem with the bumper antenna. The symptoms included an error in the memory and the engine not starting unless the key was in the ignition. A possible cause was identified as a defective cable or plug connection. After taking the car to a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be with the bumper antenna, and repairing it resolved the problems.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting issue. I had something similar with my Altea. The symptoms you describe, especially the engine start problem and the remote not working correctly, sound familiar. Have you checked the antenna mount itself? Could be corrosion or damage there causing signal interference.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say antenna mount, are you referring to the connection point on the bumper itself? Is it easy to access and inspect? I am a bit worried that I would not be able to find the antenna.

Yes, I am talking about the antenna mount on the bumper. In my case, it turned out to be a defective plug connection. If you are not comfortable inspecting it yourself, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. The diagnostic pointed to the bumper antenna and its repair cost me around 95€. Just make sure they check the cable for breaks or corrosion. Good luck!
