Seat Altea diesel engine issues

Alright, hoping someone can offer some insight. My 2006 Seat Altea with a diesel engine is giving me headaches. It's got mileage on the clock and lately the fuel consumption has gone up noticeably. Engine power is down, it sometimes stalls at idle, and there's some smoke when I accelerate. I suspect the injection system might be faulty. I've read somewhere it could be a defective cable or plug connection. Any thoughts before I take it to a shop?

I have a Seat Altea too, though I can't say I've experienced the exact same combination of symptoms. However, I did have issues with reduced engine power and stalling that turned out to be related to a fuel leak in the injection system. Have you checked for any signs of a diesel leak around the engine? Also, could air be getting into the fuel lines?

Thanks for the quick reply. A fuel leak, you say? I haven't specifically checked for that, no. Where exactly should I be looking for this leak and how would I know if air is getting into the fuel lines? Any specific areas prone to this on the Altea?

It's difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the leak without a proper inspection. I would advise checking all the fuel lines and connections around the injectors. As for air in the fuel lines, you might notice bubbles in the transparent fuel lines if your Altea has them. Given the symptoms and your suspicion of a defective connection, it might be best to have a workshop take a look. They'll be able to diagnose it more accurately and check for any other potential issues.

Just wanted to let you know. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. It turns out it was a defective plug connection in the injection system, just like we suspected. They fixed it for 95€. It runs like new now. Thanks again for your help!
