Seat Altea electric seat issue

I am at my wit's end. My Seat Altea built in 2008 with a diesel engine has developed a fault with the passenger electric seat. The error memory shows a fault, and the seat adjustment is completely non-functional. I've read somewhere that a heavily discharged or defective battery can cause such problems. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like a pain. I had something similar happen with my Altea, the passenger seat wouldn't budge. Did you check the battery? A weak battery can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems. Also, have you had a look at the seat harness underneath the seat? Sometimes the seat motor wiring can get damaged.

Interesting. You mentioned a weak battery. How did you figure out that was the problem? And did the error memory also show a fault related to the passenger electric seat? Where exactly did you check the seat wiring? I am trying to understand if our issues are really related.

Yep, the error memory showed a fault with the electric seat. It was all pointing to the seat motor, but a mechanic suggested checking the battery first. Turns out it was heavily discharged, causing voltage drops and messing with the electrics. The seat harness is basically all the seat wiring under the seat, connecting to the seat motor and other components. I would recommend taking it to a workshop.

Thank you for your help. I followed your advice and took it to a workshop. As you suggested, the battery was the culprit, causing issues with the electric seat. They replaced it and also sorted out some seat wiring issues, so all good now. Cost me 290€ in total, but at least it's fixed!
