Seat Altea Fault Memory Lock Active

I'm at my wit's end with my 2012 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine. It has 154862 km. I keep getting this annoying error message: 'Fault memory lock active'. I've scanned it with an OBD reader, and it shows an error stored in the error memory, but I can't seem to clear it permanently. From what I've read online, it could be related to undervoltage in the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried about the car electronics and potential control unit damage. I’m trying to avoid a costly auto repair bill (estimates are around 240€). Any ideas or suggestions before I bite the bullet and take it to a workshop? Dealing with these fault codes is driving me crazy!

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Seat Leon – it's a similar generation. I kept getting random error messages, and the control unit seemed to be acting up. Have you checked your battery lately? A weak battery can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems in these cars. It might be worth a look before you start tearing apart the whole system.

Interesting, thanks for the tip! When you say 'acting up', what exactly do you mean? Were you also getting a 'memory lock active' message, or was it something else? And did replacing the battery solve the issue completely, or did you have to do more?

Yeah, I was getting all sorts of random warnings – ABS light, tire pressure sensor errors, even the radio would sometimes cut out. The memory lock wasn't specifically mentioned, but the symptoms definitely pointed to something electrical. Replacing the battery helped a lot, but the mechanic ended up clearing some lingering fault codes to be 100% sure. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it checked by a professional; they can properly diagnose the issue and make sure everything is working correctly. Could save you some headaches down the road!

Just wanted to share that your suspicion was spot on! The auto repair shop checked the car electronics and confirmed undervoltage was causing the memory lock. They cleared the fault codes, did some checks, and it seems to be running smoothly now. The bill was 240€, as expected. Thanks for your help!
