Seat Altea fuel pump issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine is experiencing starting issues, stalling at idle, rough running, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The problem is suspected to be related to the fuel pump, as indicated by error codes. A suggestion was made to inspect the wiring and connectors to the fuel pump for corrosion or damage, as a bad connection can mimic pump failure. Upon inspection, a defective connection was found and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks. Appreciate the suggestion regarding the connector. How did you diagnose the wiring on your Volvo? What specific things should I look for or test?

On my Volvo, I started by visually inspecting all the wiring and connectors leading to the pump. Look for any corrosion, loose connections, or damaged wires. A multimeter is useful; you can check for voltage at the pump connector when the ignition is on. If you're not comfortable with electrical testing, it might be worth taking it to a trusted mechanic. They can diagnose it properly and avoid chasing problems. It's often the simplest things that cause the biggest problems.

Took it to the shop and you were spot on. It was a defective connection to the fuel pump. New connector and some labor, and it's running perfectly again. Total cost was 95€, thanks for your help.

Sounds like a classic fuel pump issue. I had similar problems with my old Volvo a few years back, engine stalling, rough running. The check engine light is definitely a telltale sign. Before replacing the whole pump, have you checked the wiring and connectors? A bad connection can mimic a failing pump and save money. What error codes are you getting?
