Seat Altea hands free microphone issue

I am writing to report a problem with my 2009 Seat Altea, equipped with a gasoline engine and approximately 163922 kilometers on the odometer. The hands-free microphone functionality has ceased. Consequently, telephony is no longer possible. Error memory contains an error related to this issue. Is it plausible that the infotainment system is, in fact, defective? The speech recognition and sound quality were previously acceptable, and the wireless connection was stable. I fear a costly microphone repair.

The symptoms you describe, coupled with the stored error, do suggest a potential issue within the infotainment system. Have you checked the microphone connections? Faulty wiring or a loose connection could mimic a defective microphone. Furthermore, has the audio system's software been refreshed recently? An outdated version might cause compatibility issues.

The connections appear secure, and I haven't performed any recent software refresh on the audio system. Could a software refresh potentially resolve this, or is it more likely a hardware failure within the infotainment system itself?

Given that the connections are secure and the software hasn't been recently refreshed, the probability of a hardware failure is elevated. A defective microphone is possible, but the error code points towards the infotainment system. A workshop visit is advisable for precise diagnostics. They can assess the audio system and confirm if replacing the unit is the only recourse.

I appreciate your insights. The diagnosis was indeed a defective infotainment system. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 815€. Telephony is now functioning normally.
