Seat Altea parking heater problem

My 2008 Seat Altea with a diesel engine is giving me grief. The parking heater won't activate and there's an error stored. I suspect it's the glow plug, but I'm not sure.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Altea. Auxiliary heater wouldn't kick in and the error memory was showing a fault. Did you check the blower motor for the ventilation system? Sometimes that can cause issues with the temperature sensor and throw off the whole system.

Blower motor? I haven't checked that. Where is it located and how would that affect the auxiliary heater?

Yeah, the blower motor can sometimes mess with the readings from the temperature sensor near the heater core. If it's not circulating air properly, the auxiliary heater might not get the signal to start. In my case, though, it ended up being the glow plug as well. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the help. Took it to the shop and you were spot on. Glow plug for the auxiliary heater was indeed defective. 440€ later, the parking heater is working again.
