Seat Arona 2018 does not always start, despite full battery

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2020 Seat Arona (diesel, 165432 km). Recently it takes much longer to start cold, sometimes it won't start at all, the engine makes strange noises, the battery seems weak and the headlights flicker or are dim. A warning light also comes on in the speedometer. Have you had similar problems? What was the cause and what was your experience with the garage? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The 2020 Seat Arona experienced starting issues, strange engine noises, weak battery symptoms, flickering headlights, and a warning light. A similar issue in a 2018 Seat Leon was traced to a defective voltage regulator in the alternator, which failed to charge the battery properly. The suggested solution involved checking and potentially replacing the voltage regulator and battery. After addressing the voltage regulator, the Arona's issues were resolved, and the car functioned well again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2018 Seat Leon. In my case, it was a fault in the vehicle electrics caused by a subsequent fault. The battery seemed weak, headlights flickered and warning lights came on - pretty similar to yours. At the workshop, they then discovered that the problem was a defective voltage regulator in the alternator. This wasn't charging the battery properly, which ultimately caused all these problems. The repair was quite extensive, as they also had to replace the battery and some cable connections. The whole thing was a serious problem, but once that was fixed, the car is running perfectly again. Good luck with your repair!

Hey, thanks for your answer! Sounds very similar to my Arona. Do you remember how much you paid for the repair? Were there any other problems afterwards? Thank you!

Hey, sure, I can tell you! After I went to the garage, they discovered that it was not possible to start the engine because there was a fault in the vehicle electrics. Fortunately, they recognized it immediately and fixed it. The cost of the repair was exactly €0 because it was covered by the warranty or goodwill scheme. Since then, my Leon has been running again without any problems and starts immediately, whether cold or warm start. The battery is fully charged and all warning lights are off. I hope it can be fixed quickly and easily for you too! Good luck and all the best!

Hey, thanks for the details, really reassuring to hear that it wasn't too expensive. Without further ado, I took my Arona to the garage. They checked the alternator voltage regulator and the battery straight away. They had the same suspicions as you. The problem was actually with the voltage regulator, which wasn't charging the battery correctly. The whole process took a few hours and cost me around €250. Fortunately, the car ran like new again afterwards, no further problems so far. Thanks again for your tips, that really helped! Best regards!
