Seat Arona belt squeal issue

My 2022 Seat Arona with a gasoline engine has done 156076 km and now theres this awful belt squeal. It seems like the belt tensioner is bad, or maybe the belt itself? The belt-handover thingy isnt working properly anymore. I reckon the defective belt bringerhandover itself is the problem. Anyone had this before? How much did it cost to fix? Im worried about the engine performance and I dont want to ruin anything. Any advice?

That sounds very similar to an issue I had with my Arona. The belt squeal was driving me nuts! You mentioned the belt handover isnt working; can you elaborate on that? Does the engine performance seem affected, or is it just the noise? Also, have you noticed any other unusual engine noise besides the squeal?

The engine performance seems okay, but that engine noise is definitely there. By belt handover I mean, the belt just isnt moving as smoothly as it used to, like its getting stuck. What exactly was wrong with yours, and how did you fix it?

Okay, that getting stuck feeling pretty much confirms it. In my case, the belt tensioner was indeed the culprit. Specifically, the belt tensioner pulley had seized, causing the belt to slip and squeal. I strongly advise against driving it too much in that condition, as a snapped belt can cause severe engine damage. If the belt handover is indeed defective, as you suspect, it will need replacing. Given the potential for further issues and the need for specialized tools, Id recommend taking it to a reputable workshop for diagnosis and repair. A repair cost of around 455€ sounds about right for a belt tensioner replacement.

Just wanted to say I got the belt tensioner replaced. You were right it was the belt bringer thingy, the garage called it a defective belt handover. Cost me 455€, ouch! But now the engine noise is gone and my Seat Arona is running smoothly again. Thanks a bunch for your help!
