Seat Arona Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Seat Arona diesel with high mileage is experiencing engine power loss, poor response, increased fuel consumption, and unusual noises. The issues are suspected to be related to the boost pressure system, particularly the wastegate valve. A faulty MAP sensor was also considered, but the whistling noise pointed more towards a mechanical failure in the wastegate. After a workshop inspection, the wastegate valve was confirmed as the problem and was replaced to resolve the issue.

Thank you for your prompt response. I have not checked the pressure sensor readings myself, as I lack the necessary diagnostic equipment. Could a faulty MAP sensor also cause these symptoms, or is the wastegate valve the more likely culprit given the whistling noise?

Given the whistling noise, the wastegate valve is the prime suspect. A faulty MAP sensor can cause similar issues, but the noise is more indicative of a mechanical failure in the wastegate. My advice is to take it to a reputable workshop for a thorough inspection. Replacing parts without a proper diagnosis can be costly and ineffective.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I took my Arona to a trusted local workshop. As you suspected, the wastegate valve was indeed faulty. The total repair cost came to 860€. Hopefully this resolves the issue permanently.

The symptoms you describe certainly point towards a boost pressure issue. Considering the mileage, a defect in the wastegate valve is plausible. Have you checked the pressure sensor readings? I had similar issues in the past with my old Volvo; turned out to be a cracked intercooler hose. It produced a loud hissing sound under acceleration.
